My name is Ilse Wilson, and I am the owner, teacher, cook, and accountant at Alta Children’s Center. My Company – Fairyland Child Care, Inc. purchased the Alta location in 2017, owns a preschool in Millcreek and a Family Child Care program in Sandy.
My passion is childcare and that resonates in the quality I strive for! I started caring for and educating children as a nanny in Germany at the age of 18. As this passion grew I studied and in 2008 completed my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, with director and group certification. I also obtained a degree in Accounting. During my studies, I worked and volunteered at different childcare centers, gathering a wide variety of experience. Before opening my family child care business, I was a lead preschool teacher for 2 years.
In 2013 I also started working as an Instructor at Care About Childcare (Utah’s Resource and Referral Agency) and am one of five national initiative winners for the Let’s Move! Child Care Award at the NAFCC conference. Won region 8 Leadership award, in recognition of outstanding efforts and education in the field of family child care. I am a current board member on the Department of Health, Residential Child Care Licensing Advisory Committee. In 2015 I was recognized as “Promising Emerging Leader” by Exchange Magazine, was the Feature teacher and cover page photo for the June/July issue of Teaching Young Children (TYC) magazine – a NAEYC publication, became President for the Professional Family Child Care Association of Utah (PFCCA), won the August 2015 – Provider of the month from Child Care Aware of America, and was also voted in as member on the Salt Lake Community College Program Advisory Committee.
I am the 2016 Utah Early Childhood Teacher of the Year, won Healthier CACFP Award winner for my Farm to Preschool presentation and became a Professional Development Specialist for the CDA Council.
Recently I was hired as a Quality Coach for refugee family child care providers in Salt Lake County, and am the Family Child Care Magazine Spotlight provider for the March/April Issue.
In 2017 I won a National Teacher Award by the Terri Lynn Lokoff Child Care Foundation. The prestigious recognition was celebrated in Philadelphia.
I grew up on a farm in South Africa however German is my first language. I traveled from my home country to the USA in 2004 to be a nanny to wonderful families in Colorado and Virginia. I now live in Sandy, Utah with my husband and two sons. In February 2015 I proudly became a US citizen! In my spare time I enjoy photography, and have written, and illustrated two children’s books.
